<aside> 🚀 DK: In my opinion, a doctoral thesis should originate from:
… and have a detailed plan of how to continue from where those publications left off.
The first question is in which scientific field your PhD will be located. Humanities, management, economics, natural sciences, ... And then, of course, in a specific niche included in the above fields. Tourism is not a scientific category per se, but a phenomenon that we study either in one or more (interdisciplinary) directions.
On this basis, you can then address the initial research question, followed by the relevant area of literature that you need to systematically review and master, and from these starting points develop an appropriate methodological approach.
Of course, the process is not linear. In the beginning, we read very different things, and only over time do we crystallize what we want to tackle. This is a normal process that can take several years before the student finally reaches the aha moment ;)
